Tools and Materials:Torch.Sink plunger.Plastic bowl.Large Adjustable Wrench.Wire Coat Hanger.Plastic bucket.Old Cloths. The humble domestic kitchen sink will give years of loyal service, and clear all types of waste products and mucky water that we put down. Unfortunately sometimes our drains find it hard to move waste products quickly and so the waste can solidify. All looks normal, there isnt any noise and nothing unusual apart from the fact that the water doesn’t move when we pull the plug, or empty the bowl.Method:Place the plastic bowl, rim side down and press it up and down over the plughole.Hammersmith Plumbers can unblock a drain. You may have a little luck and hear a gurgling noise with the water running away. Should this not be the case, use the sink plunger and repeat the procedure as already described, but now, cover the overflow hole and be slightly more aggressive in your action. Still no joy, use the basin and take some of the water out of the sink and into the bucket. Empty all the items from under the sink, and put on your old clothes. Place the bucket under the sink, and using the wrench very carefully undo the cleaning eye or, if it’s a bottle trap, the lower part of the bottle. Allow the last few bits in the sink and the contents of the U-bend or bottle trap fall into the bucket. Use the wire coat hanger and reshape it to form a hook that suits the shape of your particular trap. Push the wire around the U-bend or in the trap, to push out all those bits of solid food waste and bits of debris that caused the block. A Hammersmith Plumber can sort this task easily. Reseal the trap and run the water into the sink to check that it runs away. Make sure the system is not leaking. Cleanup, wash your hands and the job is complete.
