You may wish to undertake gas work as a DIY person in your own home but, if you do, there are important things to consider and it is essential for your own safety that you fully understand what you are doing, and your work must be in accordance with the gas safety regulations. If you decide to employ a professional to do the work, the installation of any new gas appliance and all gas work undertaken within your property must be undertaken by a CORGI registered gas fitting operative. Hammersmith Plumbers are qualified plumbing professionals. It is very important that you asked to see proof of the operative’s identity in relation to the work that they wish to undertake, as failure to do so might put your life at risk. All operatives have issued with a CORGI yearly credit card sized proof of identification. This card has the photograph clearly displayed on the front, which you must check. Their identity can be checked by phoning corgi on (0870) 401 2300 or by logging on to www.trust corgi.com.Do not just look at the front of the card. On the back of the card are specific areas of domestic gas expertise in which the operative is authorised to undertake work, these include: Pipework, cookers, gas fires, water heaters, central heating, warm air heating and tumble dryers. A Hammersmith Plumber can work on all domestic appliances. So, for example, if you want some work doing on your domestic boiler, make sure central heating is listed on the back of the operatives card. If you find that an operative is working without registration you should report them to CORGI as there may be endangering the lives of others. If they do not produce this card then you do not let them do the work.
